Clogged Shower Drains
All those summer trips to the beach also tend to mean a lot more sand and debris going down the drain than usual, which is why summer is the most common time for shower drains to get plugged up. Members of your household are probably also using the shower more frequently because they are likely taking part in more recreational activities when the weather is warm, and showering after. Make sure that you are using drain strainers in your showers to catch debris before it goes down the drain and causes a clog.
Malfunctioning Garbage Disposal
Summer means easy access to lots of fresh, yummy produce. The downside is that many people use their garburators as a way to get rid of all food scraps, so summertime tends to be when all those melon rinds and corn husks get tossed in the garburator and end up bunging up the mechanism. Remember that your garburator is meant to be used for disposing of the small kitchen scraps that inevitably wash down the drain, not to get rid of large scraps that you intentionally feed into it.
Tree Roots in Sewer Lines
Tree roots intruding into sewer lines can be a problem at any time of the year, but it is especially common in the summer. This is because the drier weather signals to tree roots that they need to work harder to seek out water to help them thrive. Unfortunately for you, your underground pipes are a convenient source of water for tree roots, so they will grow towards the pipes and make their way in, clogging up the pipes and really messing things up for you.
Washing Machine Issues
More laundry loads than usual are done in the summer because of the larger amount of beach towels, hiking gear, sweaty clothes, etc. that need washing. All of that laundry can overload your washing machine and cause it to break down. Have your washing machine inspected at the beginning of summer to make sure it’s ready for the abundance of laundry.
